Located in Severn Estuary, Wales, Aberavon is a fun groyne set-up that offers up a wedging left-hander good for turns and hacks. The waves here are relatively easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a rocky bottom. There are also some OK beach break peaks to the north up the beach. Poor water quality can be an issue.
What are the best surf conditions for Aberavon?
Gets good between waist high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest and West. Works on a pushing high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 8 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
