Located in West Caithness, Scotland, Shit Pipe is a quality split peak reef break that offers up a good left and right barrel often but also offers sections for performance manoeuvres. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a rock reef. Gets overlooked for its nearby companion Thurso East, but is quite quality.
What are the best surf conditions for Shit Pipe?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North and Northwest. Works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 year-round. In the summer water temperatures rise to 13 degrees. In the winter the water temperatures drop to 7 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
