Located in the Pais Vasco, Spain, Sopelana is a fun beach break that offers up some good sections for manoeuvres when the conditions line up. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Expect competitive crowds.
What are the best surf conditions for Sopelana?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and can get insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a springsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when temps drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
