Located in the Peniche area of Portugal, Praia Azul is a quality left and right reef break that offers up a barreling, heavy ride when the conditions line up. The waves here can be challenging and break for up to 100 meters over rock bottom. There is also a quality beach break on the inside of the reef and to the South of it.
What are the best surf conditions for Praia Azul?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard or step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here at the reef does not break too often (3/10) and will have a crew on it when it does (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, Southwest, and West. The reef works only at mid-tide, but the beach break works at all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit here year-round. In the summer water temps peak at 19 degrees before dropping to 14 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
