Located in Northern Algarve, Portugal, Cogumelo is a fun left reef break that offers up a bowly face and barreling sections when the swell is on. The waves here are a little tricky to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock bottom. There is another left reef next to this one, fickle and shallow. At the river mouth, there is a long, mellow left that is popular with longboarders. Check out the coast around here for other waves that will remain unnamed.
What are the best surf conditions for Cogumelo?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard or a step-up as the size increases. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and will generally have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
