Located in Madeira, Portugal, Ponta do Tristao is a quality right-hand point break that is rarely ridden but offers up great sections for performance manoeuvres. The waves can be tricky to surf and break for up to 150 meters over a rocky bottom. The access here is difficult, requiring a long paddle west from the town of Porto Moniz.
What are the best surf conditions for Ponta do Tristao?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and will be uncrowded due to access (1/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 18 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
