Located in Vendee, France, Les Sables-D’Olonne is a decent rock reef break that puts out some good waves when elsewhere is maxed out. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters providing some great sections for manoeuvres.
What are the best surf conditions for Les Sables?
Gets good from waist high to overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here most days and a step up when the juice demands it. The break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and is generally quite crowded when it is on (8/10). The best winds are from the Southwest and West. The best swells are Northwest and West. Works on a low tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16 degrees. In winter a 4/3 is necessary when water temps plunge to 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
