Located in between Portsea and Flinders in Victoria, St Andrews is another excellent sandy beach break. The waves here require a bit of surf skill and can break for up to 100 meters, serving up barreling sections where you can pull in and snag some tube time. This spot is very comparable to Gunnamatta, although usually about a half meter bigger.
What are the best surf conditions for St Andrews?
Gets good between waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding your longboard or standard shortboard/step up when bigger here. St Andrews is best suited to beginner to advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and can get busy weekends and holidays. (5/10). The best winds for St Andrews are Northeast. The best swell direction is from the Southwest.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in summer with the warmest water temperature a brisk 16 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 12 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
