Found in Queensland Australia, South Stradbroke Island is an excellent beach break that breaks over defined sandbars generated by a seawall. The waves here do require some surf know how and break for up to 50 meters delivering some of the best barreling beach break on the coast.
What are the best surf conditions for South Stradbroke Island?
The peaks really start working between chest high to double overhead. We recommend a longboard when it’s small and a shortboard when size comes through. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave to hop onto (5/10) but can get busy when it’s good (5/10). The best winds come from the West, best swells from the East, and it works on medium to high tides best.
We recommend boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 25 degrees. In winter a springsuit is best as temperatures drop to about 19 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
