South Curl Curl

South Curl Curl is a mixed bag of waves with the occasional ‘point’ style wave near the ocean pool, other times it is a shorey and often it is just a lot varied sandbanks. Waves often bounce off the rocky headland and make peaks, this can be a blessing or a curse depending on how far along the wave you catch it. Good waves are the ones that just power down the line. On smaller swells, there are plenty of beach break options, usually with a bit of a crowd as Curly tends to pick up the most swell of any beach on the north side. Waves here generally have a bit of wonk to them unlike the well-gromed shape of other breaks nearby like the various sandbanks in Manly.

North Curl Curl

Over the hill from Dee Why at the north end of Curl Curl Beach is North Curly. A consistent wave that breaks in a variety of conditions.

Best in an offshore wind and small to medium swell, North Curly can produce very fun beach breaks to satisfy most surfers. Although the crowds do get a bit full-on, there is usually enough to go around.

Check out Nth Curly in summer North East winds when everywhere else is small, it might just surprise ya!

The lowdown

Located in Sydney Northern Beaches, New South Wales, Curl Curl is a fun beach break with waves breaking over sand.beachies. Some waves can be challenging and most waves break for around 50 meters, presenting fun sections for manoeuvres!

What are the Curl Curl’s best surf conditions

The best wave size is between waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding your longboard, standard shortboard or fish here. Curl Curl in Sydney’s Northern Beaches is best suited to beginner to advanced surfers, with waves that are super consistent (9/10) and ridiculously crowded (9/10). The best winds for Curl Curl are west. The best swell direction is from the East, Northeast, South and Southeast

Surfing here in summer you’ll mostly be wearing boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top, with the warmest water temperature a pleasant 21 degrees in January. In winter we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit with the coldest temperature in June being a brisk 16 degrees!
