Located in Southern Maine, Wells Beach is a fun beach break that crashes over a sand bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing some great sections for manouvres and sometimes barrels.
What are the best surf conditions for Wells Beach?
Gets good from waist-high to double overhead. A longboard will work well here when it is smaller but a shortboard is the play when the size picks up. This beach is suitable for all levels of surfers depending on the size of the swell. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and hardly ever crowded, except in summer (3/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the East, Northeast, and Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temps rise to 18 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 when the water temps drop to an almost freezing 3 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
