Located in Southern Maine, Short Sands is a quality beachie that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters. The break here is usually hollow when it is good, head over here to get some barrels when the swell is on.
What are the best surf conditions for Short Sands?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when it is smaller and a shortboard when the size arrives. This beach is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here does not break often (3/10) and is generally uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells come only from the Northeast. Works on all tides well.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 18 degrees. In winter a 5/4 is necessary for the 3 degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
