Located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Pepino is a quality reef break that offers up hollow lefts. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. Mobbed by bodyboarders and the hang gliders circle like vultures above.
What are the best surf conditions for Pepino?
It gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (6/10) and will get insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South and Southeast. It works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summers when water temperatures rise to 26°C (79°F). In the winter, a spring suit will work when water temperatures drop to 21°C (70°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
