Found in Cactus, South Australia, Cunns is a fun, left reef break that breaks over a rock bottom. The waves here can be challenging, breaking for up to 100 meters while putting up sections for turns, hacks, and carves. It’s a good place to go when Cactus is too crowded, there is a more mellow vibe in the water here.
What are the best surf conditions for Cunns?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here. Cunns is an intermediate and up spot due to the power on tap as well as the shallow rocks. The surf here isn’t the most consistent (4/10) but you can score uncrowded waves (4/10). Cunns works best on a mid tide on a big swell from the South, Southeast, or Southwest. Offshore winds come from the East.
In summer we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit with the water temperatures hitting 21 degrees in February. In winter water temperatures drop to 16 degrees, making a 4/3 the normal attire. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
