Located in Cantabria, Spain, Santader (El Sardinero) is not a bad beach break that offers some easy-going sections for longboarding or beginners. These waves are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. This break faces East, so it needs a big NW swell to break, usually nice and sheltered with soft waves. This spot is right in the city of Santander, which can lead to crowds.
What are the best surf conditions for Santander?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is not consistent (3/10) and can get super crowded (9/10). The best swells are from the North and Northwest. The best winds are from the West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a springsuit here in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temps plunge to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
