Located in South Piura, Peru, La Islilla is a fun right-hand (yes, RIGHT hand) point break that offers up some tubes when the swell and wind match up. The waves here can be tricky to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock bottom. Watch for the local kids riding wooden boards; pretty classic.
What are the best surf conditions for La Islilla?
La Islilla gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, and then stepping up if the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not consistent (4/10) and will have a crew on it when it does break (6/10). The best winds are from the east. The best swells are summertime ones from the north and northwest. La Islilla works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 25°C (77°F). In the winter, a spring suit is best when water temperatures drop to 21°C (70°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
