Located in Chicama, Peru, Punta Huanchaco is another quality left-hand point break that offers up long, easygoing but rippable rides. The waves here are easy to surf and break for up to 600 meters (about 1969 ft) over a rock and sand bottom. This might be the home of the world’s first surfers; people here have been riding the lefts back to shore in reed boats for 2000 years. It’s a bit wind-exposed, but if it’s blown out, the town is party-central. Have fun!
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Huanchaco?
Punta Huanchaco gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is open to swell and consistent (8/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
