Located in Chicama, Peru, Puemape is an excellent left-hand point break that offers up a steep barreling start into a slightly fatter, rippable wall over the sand part of the point. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 600 meters (about 1969 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. Doesn’t like most wind. There isn’t much in town, just a few old shacks for fishermen. This is a pretty remote spot.
What are the best surf conditions for Puemape?
Puemape gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures hit 25°C (about 77°F). In the winter, a spring suit is best when water temps drop to 21°C (about 70°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
