More on Portete
Located in Northern Ecuador, Portete is a quality right-hand point break that offers powerful walls of water when the conditions line up. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 100 metres (328 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. The limiting factor here is usually bad wind.
What are the best surf conditions for Portete?
Portete gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat inconsistent (4/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the northwest, south, southwest, and west. Portete works best on a mid to high tide.
