Located in Southern North Carolina, Topsail Island is a decent beach break that breaks over shifting sandbars. This stretch of sand has a couple piers on it as well which consistently build some sand up. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing some great sections for manoeuvres.
What are the best surf conditions for Topsail Island?
Gets good from waist high to a little overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when bigger. This break is best suited for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and is usually uncrowded (4/10). The best winds blow from the West. The best swells come from the East, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Something will be working on the beach at any given tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 28 degrees. In winter the temps plunge to 14 degrees, so a 4/3 is best. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
