Located in Southern North Carolina, Ocean Isle Beach is a fun beach break, very popular in the summer, that breaks over sandbars. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing some sections for cruising or turns and hacks. This beach is a summertime spot as it faces South, unfortunately, that is when it is the most crowded as well.
What are the best surf conditions for Ocean Isle Beach?
Gets good from waist high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here most days and a shortboard when bigger. This beach is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is not consistent (4/10) and can get quite crowded during summers (8/10). The best winds come from the North. The best swells come from the East, South, and Southeast. Works on incoming mid to high tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 28 degrees. In winter the temps plunge to 14 degrees, so a 4/3 is best. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
