Located in Santa Cruz, California, The Rivermouth (that of the San Lorenzo River) is a quality but rare break that offers up steep and rippable high-performance walls and barrels. The waves break for up to 100 meters over a sandy bottom. Pollution can be a massive problem here after rain. Quality varies year to year and depends on rainfall and sand distribution, it isn’t uncommon for this spot not to break for a whole season.
What are the best surf conditions for The Rivermouth?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here almost never breaks (2/10) and will get insanely crowded when it does break (9/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. Needs a big West swell to start working. Works on a low to mid tide.
