Located in Sitka Alaska, Shoals Point is a quality right-hand point break that offers up some rippable but powerful sections when a good swell hits. The waves here are no too challenging to surf but the consequences of landing on the lava rock reef are high. They break for up to 200 meters over that lava rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Shoals Point?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will get busy when really on (5/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 year-round with hood and booties. The temperatures range from 12 degrees in August to 4 degrees in winter. See the temperature chart for more data on this.
