Located on the Orkney Islands, Scotland, Skara Brae is an excellent and consistent left point break that offers up long rides perfect for linking together performance manoeuvres. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a rock bottom. Check the other side of the bay for another great point break, this one a right.
What are the best surf conditions for Skara Brae?
Gets good between chest high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step up as the size increases. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 here year-round. Water temperatures rise to 13 degrees in the summer before plunging to 8 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
