Located in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, Skail Bay Right is an excellent, long right-hand reef/point that provides great sections for performance manoeuvres. The waves here require some surf ability and break for up to 150 meters over a flat rock reef. Plenty of other good quality options around!
What are the best surf conditions for Skail Bay Right?
Gets good between chest high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard when smaller and a step up when it gets big. This wave is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent, wind being the main issue normally (5/10) and is generally uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on a low to mid tide best.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 here year-round. Water temperatures top out at 13 degrees in the summer before dropping to 8 degrees in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
