Located in Asturias, Rodiles is an excellent, left-hand river mouth wave that offers up a long and fast barrel when the conditions line up. Many compare this wave to Mundaka when it is on, the differences being that Rodiles handles less size and is a bit shorter. The waves here are generally powerful and break for up to 150 meters over a sand bottom. Hazards include heavy currents, heavy localism, and potential car theft.
What are the best surf conditions for Rodiles?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here or a step up when bigger. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (5/10) and will be insanely crowded when it is breaking (9/10). The best winds are from the Southwest and the best swells are from the North, Northwest, and West. Works for about 2 hours on either side of low tide, but prefers the push.
We recommend wearing a springsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
