Located in Asturias, Playa Espana is a pretty good beach break that offers up some fun, peaky waves perfect for manoeuvres. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Can get crowded due to the proximity to Gijon, but vibes generally stay mellow.
What are the best surf conditions for Playa Espana?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and can get pretty crowded (7/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North and Northwest. Works best on a low to mid tide.
We recommend wearing a springsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
