Located in Ericeira, Portugal, Coxos is a world class right. This reef/point offer up long, fast, powerful, and barreling sections all the way down the slabs of rock that make up the reef. The waves here require your a-game, and break for up to 200 meters over a shallow rock bottom. Many claim this to be Portugal’s best wave when it is on, requiring clean Northwest energy to break well. Entry and exit can be problematic.
What are the best surf conditions for Coxos?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, step up, and gun as the size increases here. This break is best suited to confident intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here does not break perfectly very often (3/10) and can get very crowded with territorial locals (9/10). Show respect to get waves. The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, but it will work on a North or West. Works on a low to mid tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 here in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In the winter a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
