Located in Charente Maritime, France, La Côte Sauvage is a long series of beach breaks that offer up some heavy waves and sections. The waves here require some skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Offshore winds are ideal, and while the beaches can be crowded, there is usually plenty of room in the water. Strong undercurrents and longshore drifts. Regular contest site. Plenty of campsites near by.
What are the best surf conditions for La Cote Sauvage?
It gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard as the size increases. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is usually breaking (5/10) and can get crowded, especially in summer (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 5/4 wetsuit is best when temperatures drop to 10°C (50°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
