More on Mudjimba (Old Woman) Island

Found in the waters off of Queensland, Australia Mudjimba or Old Woman Island is an excellent left and right-hand reef break that wrap around the ends of the island. The one in the south is a left that breaks hard and fast for 200 meters over a rocky reef. The waves are heavy, heaving, and unforgiving. In the right wind there will be plenty of chances to get barreled. The drops are difficult and access is best by boat (the 30 min paddle back to the mainland can be a bit sharky).

What are the best conditions for Mudjimba Island?

Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend a shortboard, step up, or gun when surfing here. Mudjimba Island is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers that are comfortable in heavy waves. More...
