Just south of Newcastle, New South Wales, Dixon Park is a beach break that crashes over a sandy bottom. This section of beach is blended into Bar Beach, both spots are very similar. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing great sections for turns and carves. If the swell gets too big the waves will closeout, so check here on mid size swells.
What are the best surf conditions for Dixon Park?
Gets good between chest high and overhead. We recommend a longboard for smaller days and a shortboard for the bigger ones. Dixon Park is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) but will be busy when it’s good (5/10). The best winds are offshore from the West. The best swells come come the Southeast, East, or Northeast. The bars usually prefer a mid to high tide.
We recommend a springsuit in summer with water temperatures hitting 21 degrees in January. In winter a 3/2 is recommended as the water drops to about 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
