Located on Long Island in West New York, West End is an excellent jetty wedge that lurches forward over a rock and sand bottom. The waves here are pretty heavy for East Coast standards and can slam you into the shallow sand bottom easily. They break for about 50 meters, providing a potential backdoor barrel and an excellent air section. Locals can be a bit unruly towards outsiders.
What are the best surf conditions for West End?
Gets good when bigger, head high to triple overhead. A shortboard is the way to go here due to the steepness and quickness of the wave. West End is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. Some recent construction has destroyed the consistency of the wave, so it hardly ever breaks (2/10). When it does break it does not handle crowds and the locals can be aggressive (9/10). The best winds are offshore from the North. The best swells are massive from the Southwest. Works on a mid-tide.
