Located in Southern Peru, Piedras Negras is an excellent left-hand reef break that offers up powerful, sparkling barrels on the right swells. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rock bottom. The local crew is friendly.

Piedras Negras gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the East.
