Located in Antofagasta, Chile, Andromeda is an excellent reef break that offers up some powerful, barreling rides. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a rock bottom. Watch out for some pollution.
What are the best surf conditions for Andromeda?
It gets good between head high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring-suit, in summer with the warmest water temperature at a pleasant 21°C (69°F) in January. In winter, we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit, with temperatures being a brisk 15°C (59°F)! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
