Located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Praia Grande is a fun beach break that offers up some fun, rippable waves when the conditions line up. The southern end is a bit more sheltered and can offer better shape. The waves here require some skill to surf and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Praia Grande?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the East, Southeast, and South. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summers when water temperatures rise to 24°C (75°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13°C (55°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
