Located in South Carolina, The Washout is a decent collection of jetty setups that break over a sand bottom. The waves here can be a bit tricky to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing some lovely barrels when the conditions are correct.
What are the best surf conditions for The Washout?
Gets good from waist high to triple overhead. A longboard will work great here when smaller and a shortboard will work when bigger. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will be crowded with grumpy locals most of the time (9/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the East, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Works well on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 29 degrees. In winter a 3/2 is all you need when water temps drop to 17 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
