Located in South Carolina, Fripp Island is a mediocre beachie that breaks over a rock and sand bottom. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf well and break for up to 150 meters providing some excellent sections for manoeuvres. Private island, so you have to know someone or sneakily paddle across the channel out of sight of the guards.
What are the best surf conditions for Fripp Island?
Gets good from chest high to double overhead. A longboard will work well here when small and a shortboard will work when bigger. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and is uncrowded often (4/10). The best winds are from the North, Northwest, Southwest, and West depending on the stretch of curved beach. The best swells are from the East, North, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Works best on lower tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 29 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit when temps drop to 17 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
