Located in Central South Oregon, Winchester Beach is a quality break off of a massive army rock project next to the Umpqua River. This break is heavy and handles a ton of size, but the sandbar is well-formed. The waves break here for up to 100 meters providing some excellent sections for carves and hacks. When conditions line up the beach break to the south becomes very good as well. When it gets big this is a great big wave spot as well. Very Sharky.
What are the best surf conditions for Winchester Beach?
Gets good from waist high to triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here most days or a step up when bigger. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is not super consistent (4/10) and won’t be busy but the locals might be grumpy (5/10). The best winds are from the East, forget about it if there is and South wind. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, Northwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 14 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when the water temperatures drop to 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
