Located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Kill Devil Hills is a fun beach break that peels over above average sandbars. The waves here can be a bit tricky and break for up to 50 meters and provide some fun sections for manoeuvres. Watch out for the submerged debris from an old shipwreck.
What are the best surf conditions for Kill Devil Hills?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when bigger. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is usually breaking (5/10) and usually has a crew on it if not more (7/10). The best winds are offshore from the West. The best swells are from the East, North, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Works on all tides but incoming low is best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 27 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 when water temps drop to 7 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
