Located on Martha’s Vineyard, South Beach is an OK beach break that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here can be tricky to surf and break for up to 150 meters providing some great sections for turns and hacks.
What are the best surf conditions for South Beach?
Gets good from chest high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here most days and a shortboard when the size steps up. This break will work for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and is generally uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the East, South, and Southeast. Works best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 when temps drop to 3 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
