Located on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Coastguard Beach is a fun beach break that breaks over a rock and sand bottom. Watch out for submerged pieces of rock that fall from the cliffs, they bank the sand up to create good bars but also might crack a skull open. The waves here break for up to 100 meters providing some great barreling sections when it’s on.
What are the best surf conditions for Coastguard Beach?
Gets good from chest high to double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here when it is good, very steep for a longboard. This break is best for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and is crowded in the summer months (6/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the Northeast, East, and Southeast. Works best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In winter a 5/4 is the play for the 3-degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
