Located on the East Coast of Florida, Ponce Inlet (New Smyrna) is an excellent beach set-up that breaks over well-defined sandbars. The jetty on the north end of the beach set up the bars for the rest of the beach, creating some lovely areas that pick up most swells. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing some fun sections for manoeuvres. There will be a ton of people here, this is one of the most popular breaks in Florida. Watch out for estuary runoff and sharks.
What are the best surf conditions for Ponce Inlet (New Smyrna)?
Gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when bigger. This break is suitable to all levels of surfers depending on the size. The surf here is consistent for Florida standards (5/10) and is almost always insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells are from the East, North, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 29 degrees. In winter a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 18 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
