Located in the Trestles area, San Diego County, Cotton’s Point is an excellent left-hand point break that offers up some flat sections for longboarders most of the time and high-performance rippable sections when good. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a cobblestone bottom. Watch out for the shore dump at the end. This is the most Northern spot in the trestles area.
What are the best surf conditions for Cotton’s Point?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will get stupidly crowded when good (9/10). The best winds are from the East and Southeast. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
