Located in Oceanside to Encinitas, San Diego County, D Street is not a bad stretch of beach break that offers up some decent, rippable sections when the conditions line up. When bigger this spot barrels nicely. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sandy bottom. This spot will have a wave even when most others are flat, leading to some concentrated crowds.
What are the best surf conditions for D Street?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get quite crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
