Located in South Bay, Los Angeles, Southern California, Manhattan Beach is a quality beach break that rolls over a sand bottom. The waves here are generally easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters, providing great sections for cruising and manoeuvres. Dale Velzy started surfing here, this beach has a lot of history. Nasty pollution in the area now.
What are the best surf conditions for Manhattan Beach?
Gets good from waist high to triple overhead. We recommend a longboard here generally and a shortboard when bigger. This break is best for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) but will always have a crew (7/10). The sandbars work on all tides. The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when the water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
