Located in South Bay, Los Angeles, Southern California, El Porto is a quality, consistent beach break that crashes onto a sandy bottom. The waves here are generally pretty heavy, breaking for up to 50 meters. The break is usually hollow, providing great opportunities to hide behind the curtain. Unfortunately, the water here is usually polluted.
What are the best surf conditions for El Porto?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding your shortboard here. El Porto is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is quite consistent (8/10) and will be super crowded most days (9/10). The best winds are offshore from the East, it blows out easily here. The best swells come from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides depending on the sandbars.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when the water temperatures rises to 19 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
