Located in North LA County, California, Trancas Point is a quality right-hand point break that offers up some fast walls and barrels down the line on the right swells. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rocky bottom. The big rock marks the take-off spot.
What are the best surf conditions for Trancas?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and you should expect crowds (9/10). The best winds are from the North. Works on Southwest swells but West swells tend to section less. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 here in the summer when water temps climb to 19 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
