Located in Marin County, California, Point Reyes Beach is a decent and long stretch of beach break that holds a decent amount of size and is usually one of the more powerful spots on the coast. Similar to Ocean Beach in SF. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. Rips, sharks, and gruelling paddling are the norm here.
What are the best surf conditions for Point Reyes Beach?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will be empty, if it isn’t walk a bit and the bars will be empty (3/10). The best winds are from the East and Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 here in the summer. In the winter a 5/4 is best. Water temperatures range between 10-14. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
