Located in Humboldt County in Northern California, Moonstone Beach is a decent beach break that crashes over a sandy bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and can break for up to 100 meters providing great sections of turns and on the right day some sneaky tubes.
What are the best surf conditions for Moonstone Beach?
Gets good between waist high to overhead. A longboard will work on smaller days and a shortboard is best for bigger days. Beginners to advanced surfers will all find something here depending on the size. The surf here is usually breaking (5/10) but can get busy on weekends (5/10). The best winds are offshore from the East, the best swells are clean and from the Northwest, West, or Southwest. High tides are best for this spot.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 year round. The water temperature varies little from winter to summer: 12 degrees in June to 11 degrees in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
