Located in Northern San Luis Obispo, The Pit is a specific part of Morro Bay, right to the North of the rock. The Pit is a beach break that offers up some rippable lefts and some rights, although the lefts are usually better. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for The Pit?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. this break is suitable or intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 15 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temps drop t 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
